Los municipios cántabros con mayor crecimiento de viviendas turísticas

Valdáliga, Alfoz de Lloredo, and Comillas are the top three Cantabrian municipalities where tourist accommodations offered on platforms saw the most growth between 2022 and 2024, according to the second edition of the Municipal Tourism Contribution Atlas in Spain by Exceltur.

Valdáliga experienced the highest percentage increase in this offer, with a 77.4% rise, while hotel rooms decreased by 62.5%. Tourist apartments now make up 19% of the available accommodations in this municipality, with 70% of the offer consisting of rural tourism, campsites, and apartments – which saw minimal changes in their capacity – and the remaining 23% being hotels.

In the case of Comillas and Alfoz de Lloredo, tourist apartments now make up around 40% of the total accommodations, while hotels are close to 20%.

In Alfoz de Lloredo, tourist accommodations saw a 63.3% increase between 2022 and 2024, reaching 41.8% of the total capacity, with ‘apartments by keys, campsites, and rural tourism’ representing 35.2% and hotels 23%.

In Comillas, the growth of tourist accommodations during the same period was 57.4%, with apartments, campsites, and rural tourism accounting for 39.6% and hotels 20.9%.

Following these three municipalities with the highest growth in tourist accommodations offered on platforms are Arnuero (56.6%), Ribamontán al Mar (51.9%), Bareyo (51.8%), San Vicente de la Barquera (47.4%), Santa Cruz de Bezana (45.4%), Santander (44.9%), Suances (43.4%), and Castro Urdiales (37.2%).

With this growth experienced in recent years, this type of accommodation now exceeds 50% of the tourist accommodation offer in municipalities like Piélagos and Santander, representing 52.1% and 51% of the total, respectively.

The percentage is also high in Suances, where it represents 42.4% of the tourist market; in Alfoz de Lloredo, 41.88%; in Santa Cruz de Bezana, 41.5%; in Comillas, 39.5%; and in San Vicente de la Barquera, 39.2%.

This information is derived from the Exceltur report, focusing on the 18 municipalities with the most accommodation capacity: Santander, Noja, Ribamontán al Mar, Arnuero, Santillana del Mar, Suances, San Vicente de la Barquera, Castro Urdiales, Bareyo, Laredo, Val de San Vicente, Camaleño, Comillas, Piélagos, Valdáliga, Alfoz de Lloredo, Ruiloba, and Santa Cruz de Bezana, in that order.

HOTEL DECLINE

This increase in tourist apartments is contrasted by the decline in hotel rooms, with decreases recorded in half of the mentioned municipalities, nine, while no change is observed in four others.

Hotel rooms only grow in five municipalities, with significant increases in Bareyo at 18.3% and Santander at 11.3%. The other three places where hotel rooms increase are Arnuero (3.9%), Ribamontán al Mar (2.9%), and Suances (1.8%).

On the other hand, the decline in hotel rooms is notable in Valdáliga at 62.5%, followed by Suances at -10.4%, Camaleño at -7.3%, Santillana del Mar and Noja (both at -5.5%), Alfoz de Lloredo at -4.2%, Val de San Vicente at -1.4%, and Comillas at -1.1%.
