Avance en Educación y docentes tras aceptar subida de 180 euros en cinco años

The Department of Education and the Teaching Staff Board have «narrowed positions» and «progressed» towards the salary adjustment agreement in Wednesday’s meeting after the department led by Sergio Silva (PP) agreed to increase the linear raise to 180 euros per month, which would be done by extending the application period to five years, until 2029, one more year.
Additionally, the Department has shown willingness to lower the required hours to access each six-year period, although there is still «no agreement» on the exact number needed.
In this regard, the Board suggests 150 hours, something that, according to Silva, «falls short» of what the Department desires but will be «reviewed» based on this request.
The Silva department will also analyze the possibility raised by the unions to advance the «scheduling» of the six-year periods, so that the first payment could be in September 2026.
While both sides have acknowledged progress, the minister has stated that it is still too early to talk about a principle agreement and they will meet again in the next session.
Along these lines, the Teaching Staff Board has recognized that there has been «progress» but has warned that there are still «many details to define.»
Therefore, the Board and the unions it comprises (ANPE, STEC, CCOO, TU, and UGT) will have to internally assess this new proposal from the Department to agree to a linear increase of 180 euros by adding one more year.
According to the plan discussed in the meeting, the first raise in the tier would be 60 euros and would be paid from January 2026, although retroactively to September 2025. The following four raises would be 30 euros each and paid yearly (the last one in January 2029).
Extending the timeframe to five years is the option that the Department has put on the table to make the request to reach the 180 euros demanded by the Board in its latest proposal, which is 30 euros more than what the Government had offered so far, «viable.»
Another possibility explained by the minister is to «absorb» those additional 30 euros in the six-year periods, although the Board has not referred to this proposal in the statements made after the meeting.
On the other hand, the minister wants to introduce a «clause» in the agreement that «safeguards» it and conditions it on having a budgetary basis to implement it, to which the unions have shown reluctance.
In Silva’s opinion, including this clause is «an exercise in responsibility» that also «urges» the political parties that have expressed support for an agreement — namely PRC and PSOE — to demonstrate «with actions» their commitment by providing the «budgetary foundation» to implement it.
NEXT STEPS
Silva has requested the Board to send their specific demands in writing «to avoid misunderstandings,» something that the Board plans to do in the next 24 hours.
Once they have the document, the Department will make a «real calculation» of the budgetary impact and the adjustments that would need to be made on other issues, such as training hours or the scheduling of the six-year periods.
«We are making progress,» summarized Silva, who acknowledged that both parties — Department and Board — are making a «significant effort» to reach an agreement.
