The Department of Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food has allocated nearly 5.5 million euros (5,484,352 €) in grants to carry out productive investments linked to modernizing and/or improving agricultural operations in 2024.

As stated in the resolution published today in the Official Bulletin of Cantabria (BOC) (link to the resolution), the Department has increased by nearly 3 million euros the amount initially planned in the call, which is co-financed with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER) through a contribution of almost 2 million euros. Therefore, Cantabria makes a financial effort of nearly 3.5 million euros from its budget.

129 livestock farmers have benefited from these grants.

The Minister of Rural Development, María Jesús Susinos, has highlighted the significant financial effort made by her department, in an aid «that is essential for farmers to make investments in their operations and thus improve the welfare of their animals and the quality of their daily work.»

She also wanted to «acknowledge the great effort made by professionals in the primary sector of Cantabria, in trying to improve their operations, which means making very high investments and speaks to the great commitment of farmers to their activity and to a key sector for Cantabria,» Susinos concluded.

The grants aim to contribute to improving the lives and work of farmers, as well as improving the structures and adapting the operations to enhance their market orientation and competitiveness.

Another purpose of these grants is to improve the response of European agriculture to social demands regarding food and health, particularly with safe, nutritious, and sustainable food products, as well as addressing food waste and animal welfare.
