Medio centenar de familiares, amigos y allegados despiden a Tony Isbert en Santander

SANTANDER, 20 (EUROPA PRESS)

Around fifty relatives, friends, and acquaintances attended the funeral mass for actor Tony Isbert this afternoon at the Church of the Holy Christ in Santander.

After the mass, the actor’s mortal remains, who passed away on Wednesday, February 19, at the age of 74 in the capital of Cantabria, will be cremated this afternoon and transferred to the family pantheon in Tarazona de la Mancha (Albacete), where a religious ceremony will take place «in a few days.»

The hearse carrying Isbert’s coffin, accompanied by a wreath, a centerpiece, and several bouquets of flowers from loved ones, arrived near the church of the Christ a few minutes past 3:00 PM, where it was received by the priest officiating the mass along with some of his family members.

Several family members attended the funeral ceremony, including the actor’s children, Tony and Vanessa, and three of his brothers: Alfonso, Carlos, and Andrés, among others (the other brother, José, resides in France and did not attend but will travel to Tarazona de la Mancha for the scheduled event).

Additionally, some friends and acquaintances of the actor in Santander came to bid him farewell, including some members of the Naval League of Santander, who dedicated a floral wreath.

Several individuals left farewell messages for Isbert in the guestbook.

Isbert had been residing in Santander for «many years.» His brother Alfonso moved to the capital of Cantabria after being unable to contact him for two days. After activating the emergency protocol, the police and a medical team went to the actor’s residence in the city, where he was found deceased.

The actor passed away from «natural causes» as he had been battling metastatic cancer for eight years, making his passing a «logical outcome» to his condition, as explained by his brother Alfonso to Europa Press this morning.

His mortal remains were kept in room number 5 of the La Montañesa del Alisal mortuary until the time of the funeral.

There is still no set date for the religious ceremony in the town of Albacete as it will depend on when the family can gather there.

The Mayor of Santander, Gema Igual, did not attend the ceremony but, according to municipal sources, will reach out to the family. This morning, she expressed her condolences through a post on social media X (formerly Twitter), lamenting the passing of «one of our celebrated residents» on behalf of the city. The post included an image from the short film ‘Trastos Inútiles,’ starring the actor and screened at the Doctor Madrazo cultural center in 2018.

Born in Madrid, Tony Isbert was the grandson of Pepe Isbert and the son of actress María Isbert. He was known for his work in Spanish cinema during the 60s, 70s, and 80s, as well as in the theater scene with roles like the one in the stage play ‘Twelve Angry Men.’

Isbert shared the spotlight with film stars like Pepa Flores, also known as Marisol, in ‘Carola de día o de noche’ or in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ on Estudio 1 (RTVE) with actress and singer Ana Belén, to whom he presented the latest Pepe Isbert Award, created to honor his grandfather and advocate for the reopening of the historic Teatro Circo in Albacete.
