Tragedy Strikes a Diver in Islares
A 47-year-old resident of Castro Urdiales tragically passed away this morning while engaging in recreational diving off the coast of Islares.
The man experienced a physical discomfort, and his companion helped him out of the water onto a rocky area, from where he sought assistance to alert the Emergency Response Center 112 of the Government of Cantabria.
Upon receiving the call shortly after 10:00 a.m., the 112 emergency service mobilized the 061 health emergency service, municipal firefighters, local police, Civil Guard, Maritime Rescue, and the rescue helicopter team from the Government.
Upon the arrival of the emergency responders, the firefighters had already commenced resuscitation efforts, which were then taken over by the medical team.
Despite the strenuous efforts of the mobilized resources, it was unfortunately not possible to save his life.
