Nunca he utilizado un arma y jamás apuñalaría a alguien.

The young man accused of stabbing another person on the night of San Juan in 2023 at Mesones Park in Santander denied this on Tuesday during his trial, stating that he had never carried or used a weapon. He expressed that he would never stab someone and that everyone, including the victim and his lawyer, knew that he was not responsible for the stabbing.

During the trial at the Provincial Court of Cantabria, the accused admitted to having a previous conflict and fight with the victim, but he claimed that he only punched him and that his friends joined in and attacked the victim. He denied being the one who stabbed the victim and suggested that the real perpetrator was hiding.

The defendant is facing a six-year prison sentence requested by the prosecution, with an alternative charge of attempted homicide or causing injuries with a dangerous weapon, which could result in a three-and-a-half-year sentence. The victim’s legal representation seeks seven years of imprisonment, while the defense maintains the innocence of their client.

In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecution is seeking compensation of €10,330 for the injuries and damages, while the victim’s legal team is requesting €19,123 and a nine-year restraining order against the accused.

The trial also featured testimonies from witnesses, including the victim, who recalled the events leading up to the altercation. The victim mentioned that he recognized the accused from a previous fight but stated that the incident on San Juan’s night was unrelated to their past conflict.

The victim described being confronted by the accused and being physically assaulted, with the accused allegedly threatening to kill him during the attack. The victim managed to escape and seek help from the authorities, eventually receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Medical reports confirmed that the victim suffered stab wounds, with the most severe injury being in his thigh. However, the wounds were not life-threatening as they did not penetrate vital organs. The police corroborated the victim’s identification of the accused as the perpetrator of the stabbing.

Friends of both the accused and the victim who were present during the altercation also testified, with one stating that he did not witness the accused stabbing anyone. The witness mentioned that they had to leave the area due to the escalating violence.

The trial provided insights into the conflicting accounts of the incident, highlighting the complexity of the case and the challenges in determining the truth behind the events that transpired that night.
