San Vicente celebra el día grande de La Folía con procesión terrestre y marítima
San Vicente de la Barquera celebrated this Sunday the main day of the La Folía festival, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, with the traditional terrestrial and maritime procession of the Virgin of the Barquera.
The event was attended by the Minister of Development, Roberto Media, who shared with residents and visitors one of the «most popular and traditional» celebrations in the autonomous community.
Among the scheduled events were the Solemn Mass, sung by the Coral Barquereña, typical performances through the streets of the town, and the procession of the Virgin from the church to the old pier, enlivened by the traditional performance of the Picayas.
The Minister embarked on the fishing boat ‘Siempre Santa María’ to witness the floral offering in the waters off the coast of San Vicente, which brought together a large part of the local fleet.
Finally, the celebration concluded with the return of the Virgin to the sanctuary, to the sound of the chants of the Picayas and the Salvé Marinera.
The Minister of Development was accompanied by the Mayor of San Vicente, Charo Urquiza; other members of the municipal Corporation and various institutional representatives of the autonomous community, as reported by the Government.
