Sánchez justifies the increase in Defense spending to protect Europe.

Accuses PP and Vox of being «silent» in the face of Trump’s threats of a trade war

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has defended the increase in Defense spending because «only Europe will know how to protect and care for Europe» and has called for «solidarity» with those countries close to Russia that may suffer an attack, such as Finland.

«What is at stake is not simply a war or an invasion. There is much more beyond this, which in itself would be important, and that is the multilateral order. It is an order based on rules, on principles established in the United Nations Charter, such as respect for the territorial integrity of peoples, respect and the right to exist of peoples, to freely decide what they want to be,» he said on Sunday at the closing of the PSOE Congress of Cantabria.

Sánchez has stated that a «just and lasting» peace is sought in Ukraine, where «peace is urgent but not at the cost of rewarding the aggressor that will open the doors to even more serious future aggressions.» «If Ukraine wants to be part of the European Union, Russia must respect what Ukraine wants to be,» he emphasized.

Therefore, he has called for «decisive» steps to protect Europe with European values and to be in solidarity among countries. «Obviously, defense in the east or east of Europe has nothing to do with the security challenges we have in Spain. We are not going to have a physical attack from Russia like some of the Baltic or Nordic countries, such as Finland. They need our solidarity and they need and demand that we all increase our security capacity to deter Russia from perpetrating greater and new invasions,» he explained.

«We are not only Europeanists out of interest, but we are so out of conviction. That is why we are going to show solidarity with those threatened regions,» he emphasized.

PP AND VOX, SILENT IN FRONT OF TRUMP’S TARIFFS

On the other hand, Sánchez has accused the PP and Vox of being «silent» in the face of the threats of tariffs from the United States and has appealed to an «open» world where there are no trade wars. «Starting a trade war against Europe is a bad idea because we are the world’s largest trading bloc. If they do, Europe will respond united,» he asserted.

In this sense, he pointed out that Vox is «the voice of its master» and in the case of the PP, he criticized that it «ceased to be a moderate right to be tutored by the far right.» He accused both parties of their motto being «everything for money» and criticized that «they are strong with the weak, but servile with the powerful.»

«It is now important to have secure leadership at the helm of the government of Spain, in the face of those who are unable to break with the far right, which wants to destroy Europe, or who are unable to demand the resignation of Mazón in Valencia or Ayuso in Madrid,» he said.

He also asked the PP to explain which public services they are going to cut, as he criticized them for voting against the advances on account and the forgiveness of the debt of 83,000 million euros. «They have walked away from the table and left the money on the table. They are not a State opposition, in fact, they have not been, are not, and are not expected,» he emphasized.
