Casares pide al PSOE liderar una agenda de reformas con ambición de país

The Secretary General of the PSOE of Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has called for the party to be «decisive and exemplary,» as well as to lead an agenda of reforms «with a country’s ambition.»

Additionally, he stated that the socialists feel «betrayed, disgusted, and disappointed» in reference to the cases of former advisor Koldo García, former Minister José Luis Ábalos, and former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE Santos Cerdán.

This was expressed during his speech at the Federal Committee that the socialists are holding this Saturday at the national headquarters on Calle Ferraz in Madrid, as reported in a statement by the PSOE of Cantabria.

«For all those people who look at us with hope, it is time for courage, decisiveness, and a broad perspective. It is time to unite in what is urgent and important, which is the PSOE and the country. The best PSOE to continue making the best country,» expressed the leader of the socialists of Cantabria.

In this sense, he believes it is «important» for the party to continue governing Spain to «keep transforming and improving people’s lives.»

He justified this by stating that they must remain in the government «to continue raising the minimum wage, to update pensions according to the CPI, so we are not afraid to fall ill because public health takes care of us, or so that no father or mother suffers from not being able to pay for their children’s education.» «I want to continue conquering rights for workers and creating employment like never before,» he concluded.

In addition, Casares added that he wants to «live in a country where violence against women is not questioned, where women can live safely, where people can love freely, where we can face our past, and where the issue of housing is taken seriously so that the youth look at us with hope.» «Let’s not fail them. Let’s be brave,» he encouraged.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the PSOE must remain in the central government to «approve new general state budgets, effectively reduce the workweek to 37.5 hours, and legislate so that Spain is at the forefront of the fight against corruption.»

PAIN, SADNESS, AND DISGUST

In this regard, the Secretary General of the PSOE of Cantabria defended that the region is attending this Federal Committee to «build with loyalty, but understood loyalty,» and expressed his support for the socialist Secretary General, Pedro Sánchez, to «make all necessary changes.» «We support the President of the Government to lead from the left the political and democratic regeneration in this country,» he stated.

Regarding Koldo, Ábalos, and Santos Cerdán, Casares asserted that «as militants, we feel betrayed; as feminists, disgusted. And as comrades, disappointed.»

However, «no one will ever take away the pride of being a member of these initials that we feel when we walk through the door of this building, which was the home of Pablo Iglesias, and even less the actions of three corrupt individuals who have not respected anything or anyone,» he affirmed.

Casares recalled that the PSOE «is the party with the most political and intellectual heritage in Spain,» with references ranging from municipal politics like Abel Caballero; international politics like Manuel Marín or Pepe Borrell; ethical references like Gregorio Peces Barba or Demetrio Madrid; feminists like Carmen Calvo; environmentalists like Cristina Narbona; and fighters for peace like the Basque socialists. «That is the PSOE, the most decent party in Spain,» he emphasized.

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME

Along these lines, the Secretary General of the PSOE of Cantabria stated in reference to the Popular Party that «we are not the same,» and emphasized that «those of us who collaborate with justice cannot be the same as those who destroy computers with hammers; it is not the same to remove the corrupt as it is to remove those who denounce corruption; it is not the same to say Santos resign and leave, as it is to say Luis be strong,» he concluded.
